Frank and Margaret by Peter Symons - Page 4

Peter Symons

Frank and Margaret, the retired couple, lay in bed together all morning. They began to talk to each other. Frank noticed that the silence had disappeared that morning, although it did return from time to time. But the quality of the silence changed. He found that he was not frightened by it. He found that, sometimes, the silence warmed him.

They restarted their nightly walks that evening and wore their coats because it was cold. With quiet certainty, Frank slipped his hand from his pocket and placed it into his wife’s. He rested his forearm on top of hers and they walked out the front door.
